  • Mr. Michael Kneier, VP Sales and Marketing
  • Mr. Juri Simon, Finance and Administration
  • Mr. Sascha Tornow, Quality Management

CEO and Founder

Jörg Muchametow, Dipl. Ing. graduated in Electronics at the Technical University Berlin. During the first years of his career he was involved in developing telecommunication systems. In 1990, Jörg joined Siemens as a development engineer for the development of fiber-optic transceivers. After a fast-track career, Jörg held worldwide profit and loss responsibility  for laser components with revenues in excess of €10 million.

In 2001, he moved to a Munich start-up company as director of their laser fab in Berlin.

Five years ago he founded eagleyard Photonics, together with Thomas Laurent, where he is now CEO.

CTO and Founder

Thomas Laurent, Ph.D. gained his degree at the Humboldt University in Chemistry for research on low-noise laser systems. In 2001, he started his industrial career at a start-up company, where he was responsible for testing and characterization of telecom laser diodes. Together with Joerg Muchametow. he founded eagleyard Photonics in 2002. At eagleyard, Thomas is responsible for production and technology.

VP Sales and Marketing

Michael Kneier joined eagleyard in April 2006 being responsible for worldwide Sales and Marketing. He brings with him more than 17 years of experience in the optoelectronics industry, 12 years thereof in the sales and marketing playground. That makes him ideally suited to complement the technology competence of eagleyard Photonics with his excellent sales skills and market knowledge.

Most recently Michael Kneier served as VP Sales & Marketing with u²t Photonics, an expert company in high speed photodetectors. Between 1990 and 2002, Michael Kneier held various positions, with mainly global responsibility, in such disciplines as development, sales and marketing, or as director of strategic marketing within the optical communications business of Siemens and Infineon Technologies.

He holds a degree in Precision Engineering from the Technical University Berlin, and is owner/co-owner of various photonic patents.

Finance and Administration

Juri Simon, Dipl.-Kfm. completed his education as a banker and graduated in business administration at the Berlin School of Economics. In 2005, he joined eagleyard Photonics as financial assistant to the managing directors, responsible for finance and accounting.

Quality Management

Sascha Tornow, Dipl.-Ing. has ten years experience within the optoelectronics  arena.  During his study he worked on optimizing HEMT (high electron mobility transistors) structures for high-speed electronics based on indium phosphide.  In 2000, he gained his degree in telecommunication engineering and started his career as a reliability engineer, where he developed a burn-in system for 40 GBit/s optical receiver components.  Working as a quality and reliability manager since 2003, he led several projects to introduce Telcordia-qualified fiber-optic components to the telecom market, and looks after key customers like Alcatel-Lucent.  He joined eagleyard as Quality Manager in order to supervise the installed ISO9001 system and to support eagleyard quality assurance processes.  Furthermore, he takes care of qualification projects to develop hirel laser components.
